American Financial Solutions Client Recognized as NFCC National Client of the Year

At American Financial Solutions, we have the privilege of walking alongside people as they work toward their financial goals, overcome financial challenges, and build brighter futures. This year, we are especially honored to celebrate one of our own clients, Hector Gomez, who has been named the National Foundation for Credit Counseling's (NFCC) Client of the Year.

This prestigious recognition honors individuals who have demonstrated exceptional determination, commitment, and perseverance in achieving financial stability. Hector's journey embodies all of those qualities and serves as a powerful reminder that financial setbacks do not define a person's future.

A Journey of Resilience and Determination

In 2021, following a divorce, Hector found himself facing more than $21,000 in credit card debt and significant financial uncertainty. Throughout his marriage and during the COVID-19 pandemic, he had relied on credit cards to help cover everyday living expenses and household bills.

Although Hector consistently made his minimum payments on time, the balances continued to grow. Like many people facing mounting debt, he began to wonder how he would ever be able to pay it all off.

As an immigrant from Venezuela, Hector did not have family nearby or a support system he could turn to for financial assistance. At the same time, he was working to rebuild nearly every aspect of his life.

Over the next year and a half, Hector focused on creating a fresh start. He secured housing, purchased a vehicle, and began building a new foundation for his future.

Taking the First Step

During this period, Hector accepted a position at a bank and made a personal commitment to become, in his words, "an example of what I recommend to my clients."

In 2023, he began taking financial literacy classes and learning more about money management. Through his employer, he was introduced to the National Foundation for Credit Counseling and started researching options for professional guidance.

That search eventually led him to American Financial Solutions.

Hector enrolled in a Debt Management Plan with clear goals:
•    Eliminate the debt that remained after his divorce
•    Better understand credit and budgeting
•    Build a strong financial foundation for the future
•    Create opportunities to travel and someday support a family

Committed to Success

From the beginning, Hector approached the program with dedication and discipline.
He maintained regular communication with his AFS counselor, followed his budget, and remained committed to his financial goals even when progress felt slow.

His consistency paid off.

In 2025, Hector successfully completed his Debt Management Plan and became debt free.

Even more remarkable, he completed the program nearly two and a half years ahead of schedule.

For Hector, becoming debt free wasn't simply about paying off balances. It was about creating freedom, reducing stress, and building confidence in his ability to manage his financial future.

A Story That Inspires Others

Today, Hector continues to apply the financial skills and habits he developed throughout his journey. His success demonstrates that meaningful financial change is possible with the right support, education, and commitment.
