Confessions of a Credit Counselor, Donna's Story

What do you do at AFS and how long have you been here?

I have been at AFS for almost 15 years and I am a certified credit counselor, housing counselor and student loan counselor. I currently work with people who need help with their student loans.

What do you like most about your job?

I love hearing things like “This was the best call I ever made, thank you!“  I love knowing that I have been able to provide people information, education or insight that allows them to make positive changes in their lives.

One piece of advice you’d like to give people:

Give yourself permission to make necessary changes in your life. I find when counseling clients, even when they acknowledge that the current plan or actions they are taking are not working for them, they continue to keep doing the same things.  It seems like, as humans, we know what we need to do to improve our lives but we don’t actually give ourselves permission to make the necessary changes.

When I am not at work I like to:

Hang out with my hubby of 31yrs. I know it sounds cheesy, but I really do like him.
